Dr Nicholas Heard
Dr Heard studied Medicine at The University of Queensland and graduated in 2003. He went on to complete his internship and residency years within Queensland Health and in the NHS in the UK.
In 2007 Nicholas commenced specialty training in anaesthetics, including time with CareFlight QLD and NSW, as well as fellowships at Royal Hobart Hospital and Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, UK, where he developed an interested in anaesthesia for trauma and liver transplant.
In 2017 Nicholas joined Wesley Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine and now works exclusively in private practice. Areas of interest include Total Intravenous Anaesthesia, anaesthesia for trauma and liver surgery, head and neck surgery, plastics & reconstructive, occuloplastics, neurosurgery, major abdominal surgery, gynaeacology and fertility.
From 2014 to 2022 he held an SMO position at Princess Alexandra Hospital and was a member of the liver transplant team. From 2015-2020 he lead the statewide rollout of the anaesthesia module of Qld Health’s electronics health record and chaired the statewide digital healthcare improvement network.
Nicholas is a fellow of the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and participates in its CPD program. He is also a member of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists and a senior lecturer with the University of Queensland.
Outside of work Nicholas is a dedicated father and husband, an avid cyclist and a poor but enthusiastic swimmer. Otherwise he can be found digging in his productive garden or strumming on a badly tuned guitar.
