Dr Matthew Black

Dr Matthew Black is a graduate from the University of Newcastle Medical School (2011), following which he completed his anaesthetic specialist training in South East Queensland. In 2021 Dr Black undertook further anaesthetic fellowship training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) with a focus in major vascular and obstetric anaesthesia.  Currently, Dr Black is a Staff Specialist at the RBWH where he regularly provides anaesthesia for major vascular, high-risk obstetrics, orthopaedic, neurosurgical, head and neck, gynaecological, ophthalmic and general surgical procedures.

Dr Black is a senior lecturer with the University of Queensland and is actively involved in junior doctor education, departmental quality and safety and perioperative patient optimisation. He enjoys interacting with and helping his patients feel at ease prior to their surgery whilst creating a pleasant working environment for the members of the operating theatre.

In his spare time Dr Black enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, watching AFL and playing golf.
